Written by Nadine Dereza | 12/05/2016

In 2006, WeDo Technologies’ Worldwide User Group was introduced with the aim of strengthening and promoting a community of software users around revenue assurance, fraud management and other telecom related-subjects.

Since then the event has gone from strength to strength, and I’m delighted to become WeDo’s Master of Ceremonies for the first time at the 2016 Worldwide User Group & Summit (#WUGS16) this week in Lisbon. It’s set to be a truly international event, with delegates attending from more than 45 countries around the world, and speakers presenting on a range of topics including Revenue Assurance, Fraud Management, Digital Transformation, Machine learning, Big Data and Predictive Analytics or the Internet of Things (IoT).

The line-up for this year’s event is really exciting, featuring a keynote from one of Europe’s leading futurists, Patrick Dixon, as well as senior spokespeople from major operators including Vodafone, Orange and Three UK. In addition to the speakers, the User Group will gather an exclusive community of revenue assurance and fraud management professionals from telecom, retail, utilities, healthcare and finance industries. It will feature customer case studies, networking opportunities, product demonstrations, hands-on training sessions and discussion panels, which will provide knowledge on a range exciting new ideas and innovation trends.

I’ll be moderating two panel sessions at the User Group, with the first on ‘The Future of Fraud Management and Revenue Assurance,’ featuring Paul Morrison, Senior Partner, Gartner Consulting, Eric Priezkalns, Editor in Chief, CommsRisk and WeDo’s CMO, Sérgio Silvestre. The discussion will focus on the current biggest obstacles to innovation in Revenue Assurance (RA) and Fraud Management (FM); the need for operators to have the right risk management tools in place and how RA and FM will be affected by compliance requirements imposed by governments and regulators.

The second session is on the ‘Future of Telecom Fraud Protection,’ with panellists including Mark Broom, Chair of GSMA Fraud & Security Group, Chris Walters, Board Director of CFCA and Jim Bolzenius, senior director of business development and fraud expert at WeDo. Key discussion points will include the impact that new technologies and business models will have on fraud protection in the future, alongside the key skills and resources that fraud managers will need to keep up on the latest trends in fraud. Within the conference I’ll also be interviewing Friday’s keynote speaker Paulo Azevedo, Chairman of Sonae, to hear about Sonae’s working relationship with WeDo and highlights from the User Group over the last fifteen years. The WUGS16 will be a unique opportunity to share experiences and ideas, and we hope to see you in Lisbon!
