When you get to my age there are few things left that get you really excited, mainly because you have done so many things already. When it comes to work matters, the excitement levels are even less pronounced. When it comes to conferences I slip into the ‘oh no, not another one’ mode!
I don’t think I could even attempt to count how many conferences, user groups, exhibitions, road shows, webinars, virtual events, press briefings and product presentations I have experienced in my 20 plus years in the communications industry but it must been in the many hundreds. So I’m sure you can understand my opening statement.
However, I have an admission to make. There is one event I not only look forward to each year and actually invite myself to so I don’t miss out. It’s one event that captures the core essence of collaboration, open discussion, information gathering, networking and camaraderie. It’s a user group with attitude, and I like that.
Senior people from leading operators around the globe are treated to a light mix of product presentations and keynotes from invited dignitaries and senior execs, but all of them stay on to mix socially with everyone else.
This event is broken into multiple group events, always featuring brilliant cuisine, local wines and convivial hosts in a magnificent venue. History, culture and good cuisine always hook me, and judging from the regular faces that turn up, I’m not the only one. Those people will know exactly what I am talking about – the WeDo Technologies' Worldwide User Group.
For those of you that have yet to savour the delights of Portugal and the sheer pleasure of being spoilt rotten by CEO Rui Paiva, and the WeDo Technologies team, you don’t know what you are missing out on. The level of detail they go to is astonishing, right from the personal ‘meet & greet’ at the airport on your arrival to the farewell hugs on departure.
This year’s gala event will be held in Porto, one of Europe’s leading tourist destinations with an eclectic mix of history, architecture (wait ‘til you see the railway station), wine production, unique foods and magnificent scenery.
I have my bags packed already and will have the great honour of being your MC again this year. If there is one event you should not miss, this is it!
